WATER VALLEY – The Water Valley School District (WVSD) recorded a 92.9 percent graduation rate for the 2022-2023 school year, the highest in district history. The graduation and dropout rates were released by the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) on Jan. 18. The dropout rate for WVSD was 5.7, also a record as the lowest in school history.
“This is a district-level accomplishment,” Superintendent Drew Pitcock shared in an email to faculty on Jan. 18. “Our students’ educational journey begins the day they start Pre-K/kindergarten and continues until graduation. This victory is a direct result of the hard work and dedication of each staff member that students encountered along the way. Thank you for all you do.”
MDE reported the statewide graduation rate was 89.4 percent, an all-time high in the state. The graduation rate for the Coffeeville School District was 89.2 percent and the dropout rate was 8.1 percent. Rates are based on students who entered ninth grade for the first time during the 2019-2020 school year. Mississippi’s graduation rate exceeds the latest U.S. rate of 86.5 percent from 2019-2020 reported by the National Center for Education Statistics.
