WATER VALLEY – Voters in the City of Water Valley will go to the polls on Feb. 13 to vote in the special election for mayor. Ron Hart, Tommy Reynolds and Terry Rockette qualified to run for the seat that was vacated after former Mayor Donald Gray resigned to take office as Yalobusha County Chancery Clerk.
Absentee voting is underway and ballots can be cast at city hall during business hours. City hall will also be open from 8 a.m. until noon for absentee voting on Saturday, Feb. 3 and Saturday, Feb. 10. The deadline to cast an in-person absentee ballot is Feb. 10. In Mississippi, registered voters are eligible to vote absentee based on age, health or work demands, or their affiliation with the U.S. Armed Forces. For example, voters who will be outside the county on election day are entitled to vote by absentee ballot.
The polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Feb. 13. Voters who live in Ward One and Ward Two will vote at the depot located at 105 Railroad Street. Voters who live in Ward Three and Ward Four will vote at the fire and police department, located at 1001 Community Park Drive.
If a candidates does not receive a majority of the votes cast on Feb. 13, the top two-vote getters will advance to a runoff election.
The winner of the election will serve the remainder of the term that ends June 30, 2025.
