George Curtis Blakely

COFFEEVILLE – George Curtis Blakely, 84, of Coffeeville, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at his residence. He was born June 7, 1939, in Grenada County to Rufus and Annie Anderson Blakely.

George enjoyed a 42-year career at Heatcraft in Grenada and treasured the many friendships he made with his co-workers. A faithful Methodist, he was proud to tell anyone that Rev. Johnny Dinas baptized him and wanted everyone he encountered to have a relationship with Jesus Christ. A true sports enthusiast, he loved to keep up with all Mississippi State Athletics as well as the St. Louis Cardinals. In his earlier years, George enjoyed officiating basketball games in the Mississippi Private School Association. An avid outdoorsman, George enjoyed fishing and hunting in his spare time. George will long be remembered as a man who loved the Lord, his family and friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday, February 15, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service with Rev. Janie Mortimer and Bro. Ken Salley officiating. Interment followed in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Survivors include his wife, Faye McCalop Blakely; one son, George Blakely, Jr. of Grenada; grandchildren, Kurt Blakely and Kayla (Kyle) Franklin, all of Grenada; a great-granddaughter, Kimber Franklin of Grenada; a sister, Minnie (Bill) McMinn of Coffeeville; and sisters-in-law, Joan McDaniel and Glenda Sides.

George was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Frances Denley, Earline Harris, Bertha Inman, Annette Sanders, Beulah Hubbard and Lottie Toole; and brothers, John Blakely, L.D. Blakely and Herbert Blakely.

Robert Dion Fly

CASCILLA – Robert Dion Fly, 57, of Cascilla, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2024 at the North Mississippi Medical Center – Eupora. Dion was born August 25, 1966, to Robert Earl and Rosa Lynn Jeffreys Fly. He worked for a number of years at Heatcraft in Grenada and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Fly also enjoyed participating in and supporting 4-H activities as well as spending all the time he could with his grandchildren. He would help anyone that needed it. He was a hard worker who always put others before himself. He was a loving and devoted father and grandfather.

Funeral services were held Sunday, February 18, at Goshen Chapel near Coffeeville with Rev. Jason Smith officiating. Interment followed in Goshen Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jeff Fly, Terry Malone, Chris Russell, Will Shankle, Dawson Smith and Donnie Sultan. Honorary pallbearers were Derrick Fly, Phillip Fly, Calvin Hood, Daniel Kerr, Bobby Love and Royce Rosemond. McKibben and Guinn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include two daughters, Felicia Roseann (Bobby) Love of Eupora and Bridgette Raven Fly; a son, Robert Jack (Kaileigh) Fly of Cascilla; two brothers, Calvin Hood of Carroll County and Phillip (Linda) Fly of Gore Springs; nine grandchildren, Leslie, Harper, Hailey and Lindsey Love, Elena Ezra-Rayan and Ebaa-Stormie Fly and Nashton and Illia Fly; uncles, Danny Kerr, Johnny Fly and Lynn Allen Fly; a niece, Ashley Braxton; and nephews, Derrick Fly, Dillon and Hunter Hood.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
