Fred White was recognized during the service on Feb. 11 at Bayson Chapel M.B. Church. He is the son of the late Charlie and Victoria White. White dearly acknowledges scripture and one of his favorite is John 3:16 that reads, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
Fred’s father, Charlie White, was the first African American to serve on the City of Water Valley police force. Following the servant-leadership footsteps of his father, Fred has committed an extensive amount of his life serving and being a leader in the community of Water Valley.
Most recently, setting a record for Water Valley, Fred was acknowledged as the first African American alderman to serve on the city board for 33 and a half years. Because of his dedication and commitment over those years, White was inducted into the Mississippi Municipal League’s Hall of Fame during the summer conference in July, 2021, at Biloxi.
White also spent numerous years as an entrepreneur, having owned three businesses in Water Valley. Even presently, however not as often, he continues to enjoy attending auto auctions to help his family, friends and others in the community secure reliable vehicles. He attended trade school at Valley State University after high school.
White also worked as a carpenter for 29 years, building and remodeling churches and houses in the community.
Above all accolades, White has made it clear that he is committed to God, loves and values and family, pastor and his church family at Bayson Chapel – all of whom have shown their love through prayers, visits, calls and gifts countless times over the years and particularly during a tested season the last 18 months.
“Let us all remember that through it all, God can bring you through,” White said.
