The Water Valley and Coffeeville offices of Yalobusha County Circuit Clerk Daryl Burney will be open a half-day Saturday for in-person absentee voting in the March 12 presidential primary election. Both local offices, like their counterparts across the state, are required to be open from 8 a.m. until noon on the last two Saturdays before the Election Day. Saturday, March 9, is also in the deadline to cast an in-person absentee ballot.
The polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on March 12 for voting in the Presidential Primary at precincts across the county. In the primary election, voters choose either a Republican or Democratic ballot. All three races on the Democratic ballot are uncontested. Joseph R. Biden, Jr. the only candidate seeking the nomination for U.S. President. Ty Pinkins is the sole candidate for U.S. Senate and Bennie G. Thompson is unopposed for his party’s nomination for the Second Congressional District seat.
On the Republican ballot, four candidates are listed seeking the party nomination for U.S. President, but Nikki R. Haley and Donald J. Trump are the only candidates remaining in the primary. The Secretary of State’s office reported that while Vivek Ramaswamy and Ron DeSantis have both suspended their campaigns, they have not filed the necessary paperwork in Mississippi to withdraw from the ballot as required by Miss. Code Ann. Section 23-15-1095. Both candidates were notified about the requirement, the office said.
The Republican ballot also includes three candidates seeking the nomination for U.S. Senate – Ghannon Burton, Dan Eubanks and Roger F. Wicker. Three Republicans are also competing for the party nomination for the Second Congressional District representative position – Ron Eller, Andrew Scott Smith and Taylor Turcotte.
