School Board Names Pitcock Superintendent

Drew Pitcock

WATER VALLEY – The Water Valley School Board of Trustees voted unanimously to hire Drew Pitcock as superintendent during a special meeting Friday morning. Pitcock has served the district as principal at Water Valley High School since 2015 and was appointed interim superintendent in January following the retirement of former superintendent Jerry Williams.

School board president Joseph Flippin reported Friday’s decision came after the position was advertised and candidates were interviewed last week. An email was sent to school faculty Friday shortly after the meeting announcing the hire.

“We look forward to the future under Mr. Pitcock’s leadership,” Flippin said.

“I am humbled and energized by the school board’s decision. I am honored to be trusted with the responsibility to lead this district,” Pitcock reported.

Pitcock is known as a servant-leader in the district and helped guide Water Valley High School from a D-rated school to a B-rated school.

“Leadership is very important, but the rubber meets the road every day in the classroom with interaction between the students and teachers. I think we have the best teachers in the state, I have always said that and I mean it,” Pitcock said.
