It’s the moment that we’ve all been waiting for! ‘Twas the week before spring break, when all through the school, not a student was stirring, not even the staff. The students were waiting by the bells with care, with hopes that spring break would soon be there!
The powerlifting team has prepared all week for their weekend North Half powerlifting competition. The Lady Devil Lifters competed Friday afternoon around 4 p.m. Three of the four lifters medaled in their weight class including Lailah Harris, third place; Mya Harden, second place; and Abby Ingram, third place.

Water Valley High School senior Arthur Fielder for setting a new school record of 291 out of 300 in the archery event at Lafayette.
The boy’s team competed the following Saturday morning amd one of the two lifters medaled in their weight class as Drake Mabary earned a third place medal. With hard work and heavy lifting, these powerlifter will advance to the state competition in Jackson. The girls will lift Friday, April 5, and the boy’s team will follow on Saturday, April 6. Congratulations to each lifter as they have worked hard during the season and community. Be sure to support the team throughout the remainder of the season.
The Water Valley archery team has had a MAJOR breakthrough during last week’s archery meet at Lafayette. With almost a perfect score, senior shooter Arthur Fielder set a new school record with a total score of 291 out of 300. The last time a school record was broken was four years ago, so congratulations to this fantastic senior!
Head football coach Clint Faust was recently congratulated as he was announced to be selected by the Mississippi Association of Coaches football committee to be a member of the 2024 Bernard Blackwell North All-Star coaching staff. The game will be played in December and will take place at Gulfport High School. The All-Stars from the North will battle against the south half of the State.
This game promotes the schools, coaching staff, and players’ skills. Congratulations on Coach Faust’s success!
Aside from sports, the Class of 2024 seniors have been preparing for one of their most significant assignments of the year: mock interviews! A mock interview includes simulated interview scenarios and questions with positive feedback to help the student improve their interviewing skills. Each senior was required to participate, and each was assigned a local professional from the community for the interview. These seniors wore their finest formal attire, their best smile, and overall rocked their interviews! This exercise helps students prepare for their future actual interviews.
Thank you to the community members who took the time out of their busy schedules to help develop the seniors of Water Valley High. Also, a big shout out to Mr. Jonathon Barnes, the school’s counselor, and Mrs. Kim Ayer, the Career Coach, for organizing these interviews. They are greatly appreciated.
Down in the junior high building, seventh and eighth grade students were rewarded with ice cream sundaes for their excellent behavior and attendance for term three. Keep up the good work!
The junior high track team has also competed in their first track meet of the season at South Panola! The girl’s team placed fourth overall with a total score of 48 points. The boys placed third overall with 54 points. While their scores may not be the best, these teams have so much potential to grow farther! Their next meet will take place on March 25 at Winona High School. The varsity team will attend their first season meet on March 22 at New Albany High School. Cheer the track team on as they run into their season!
And just like that, the Blue Devils are heading off into their long-awaited spring break. It is well deserved after weeks of hard work and days of restlessness. Check back in later to see how much fun the students had over their time off. Until then, Happy Spring Break!
