The Chamber is delighted to invite you to the Water Valley Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Reception at the Fountain Square Event Plaza on Tuesday, April 30. The festivities kick off at 6 p.m. with delightful refreshments, live entertainment courtesy of Joe Austin, and an engaging program scheduled to follow.
Join us as Mayor Tommy Reynolds delivers his inaugural state of the city address covering various topics of importance to the citizens of Water Valley. Kagan Coughlin, Executive Director of the Yalobusha County Economic Development District, is set to provide insights into both present activities and forthcoming developments within the county.
Additionally, we’ll proudly introduce the new 2024-2025 Chamber board and officers. The evening will also feature the presentation of the prestigious Braswell Hatcher Community Service Award, as well as the announcement of the recipient of the Elliott Scholarship.
The Braswell Hatcher Community Service Award was named for the first recipient and was instituted in 1998 by the Water Valley Area Chamber of Commerce. This award stands as a tribute to those who exemplify selflessness and dedication in their efforts to uplift our community.
Named after its inaugural recipient, the award symbolizes a tradition of excellence and altruism. It offers recognition for individuals whose tireless service goes above and beyond the call of duty, leaving an indelible mark on the fabric of our town.
Since its establishment, this coveted award has become synonymous with the highest ideals of community engagement and civic responsibility. Each year, the Chamber of Commerce eagerly anticipates the opportunity to honor a deserving individual whose contributions have made a profound and lasting impact on the lives of Water Valley residents.
The name of the recipient remains a closely held secret until the night of the presentation.
Another award of note to be presented that evening will be the Elliott Scholarship. This is given to a deserving senior from Water Valley High School. This scholarship serves as a testament to the enduring legacy of community service and dedication exemplified by Joe Elliott, Jr. and Patsy Elliott Wilder.
The roots of the Elliott Scholarship lie in the tireless efforts of Joe Elliott, Jr. and Patsy Elliott Wilder to breathe new life into the beloved Watermelon Carnival. Their commitment to reviving this cherished tradition sparked a ripple effect of positiveness throughout the community, inspiring others to join in to make a difference.
Unlike conventional scholarships, the Elliott Scholarship goes beyond academic achievements, focusing also on the essence of service to others. It is a recognition for outstanding young individuals whose actions speak volumes about their character and commitment to the betterment of our community.
“Join us for a memorable evening at Fountain Square for the Water Valley Chamber of Commerce Annual Reception,” invites Tonya Eubanks, Chamber President. “Your presence is appreciated as we celebrate together and foster our community spirit.”
