Unlimited breaks back to back! As you all know, students were getting back in the swing of things after returning from spring break when they enjoyed another break for Easter! Somehow students are still managing sports, clubs, school activities, and so much more, all while still maintaining superior grades.
The Water Valley High School Interact Club is stepping into a bit of spring fun as they plan for their newest tradition, a spring service project! This group of students prioritizes community service and overall advancements in Water Valley. The local Rotary Club of Water Valley hosts the club. The project will not only be a great outlet for community service, but also a fun outing for many kids within the community. The Interact Club members call it the “Library Day For Littles.”
The event will be held at the Blackmur Memorial Library from 9 to 11 a.m. on April 6. The organization welcomes all preschool and elementary kids of age and other members who like to come out and experience a fun morning filled with reading, crafts, and music! To add a unique twist, club members are making arts and crafts activities based around the upcoming solar eclipse. Community, please support the Interact Club members by showing up and celebrating their spring service project!
The Water Valley High School Archery Team is aiming for the state after competing at the North Half level. The team scored 3,287 points, placing them second overall, and beating out top teams such as Hatley, Bruce, Baldwyn, and many others.
Junior shooter Bella Humphreys was the top female shooter with a triumphant score of 283. Senior Arthur Fielder was once again the top male shooter! But this was no ordinary match for Fielder, he broke the school record of 291 points that he recently set! Fielder scored ANOTHER school record with a score of 292 points out of 300.
We are going to continue following the archery team to see just what they have in store as they compete at state.
It is safe to say your future healthcare is in good hands! Health Science students participated in the H.O.S.A. (Health Occupation Students of Americans) State Competition at Tupelo. H.O.S.A. is for future health professionals in the Health Science CTE program. The students who placed in district competitions were able to compete at the state level. District winners are: Nursing Assistant: Lakendra Bishop, fourth place; Nakyla Woodard, fifth place; Chyanne Winters, sixth place; Brooke Crocker ninth place; and Laine Burns, 10th place. Mandaryn Smith placed fifth in medical terminology.
Over 1,200 students competed from schools across the state of Mississippi in the following competitions: Nursing Assistant, Medical Terminology, and Health Career Display.
“We had a wonderful time,” Health Science teacher Chrystee Hamilton reported.
Stepping out of the health field and into the filming industry, English teacher Anna Koshenina has allowed her students to create a documentary film discussing the political future of our youth. Public Company Britheart has partnered with a local business, This is Noteworthy, to create a three-season docuseries.
They are titling this series “Citizen Revival,” and the primary focus is journeying with the youth as they take steps to become more active in civic engagement. Students will be asked to discuss and explain why, or why not, participation in democracy is, or could be, a core value for them while also being recorded for publishing.
The sponsors noted, “This series is not about any one person, any one election. It IS about connecting with the future of our country.”
So, as these students work with these overachieving filmmakers, wish them luck as they take on a new public role in their community!
Water Valley High has been flying through the weeks! Though it was a short school week, students made the best of it, still managing to load up the school activities. Check back next week to discover what your local Blue Devils are getting into next!
