Oakland’s Yalo-Ribbon Festival Lineup Includes New Activities And Live Music
Oakland’s third Yalo-Ribbon Festival is shaping up to be a great one! The May 4th festival brings new activities including mechanic bull riding for both children and adults along with three live music acts and a community-wide yard sale.
The festival kicks off at 10 a.m. in the downtown area connected by Holly, Oak and Hickory Streets. Arts and crafts vendors, food trucks, a kids zone, and the cake-walk are all in the activity lineup.
Live music sponsored by the Ed and Becky Meek Foundation starts at 1 p.m. with Jessey Higdon and Steve McGregory. Üni follows at 2:30 pm and Keith Johnson and The Big Muddy Band at 4 p.m. Chairs may be set up starting at 12:30 p.m. after the Cake Walk.
The Cake Walk begins at 11:30 a.m. and has become a family favorite as ticket holders walk a numbered path as music is played. When the music stops, the emcee draws a number and the person standing on the number wins a cake. The final round of the cake walk will include a cake and a cash prize. Tickets may be purchased at the Chamber table on the day of the event. There will be five rounds with each round having multiple cakes awarded.
This is the first year to have a community-wide yard sale. Participants may reserve a space and bring items to the sale area which will be across the railroad tracks from the downtown area or they may hold their sale at their homes and have their addresses listed on a Yard Sale Map.
