Tornado Sirens In The County Are Repaired
WATER VALLEY – Yalobusha County EMA Director Stewart Spence reported that all of the county-operated tornado sirens are working except one following recent repairs. The sirens are located at volunteer fire departments across the county. Spence said the tornado siren at O’Tuckolofa Fire Department will soon be back functional after a $3,000 repair.
Spence also reminded Yalobusha residents that there are seven storm shelters scattered across the county. The shelters are located at Pine Valley, O’Tuckolofa, Sylva Rena, Velma, Skuna Valley, Clear Springs and Tillatoba fire departments.
Spence noted that Yalobusha County residents can sign up for weather alerts available for both cell phones and land lines. CodeRED is a free service provided by Yalobusha County that delivers advanced notification of severe weather events as soon as a bulletin is issued by the National Weather Service (NWS). The system delivers voice calls, text messages or emails within the direct path of the storm to subscribed users.
Spence explained the land line notifications available from CodRED are ideal for elderly residents who may not use a cell phone.
