Herald Website Was Down Three Days After Hacking Attempt

WATER VALLEY – The North Mississippi Herald’s website, yalnews.com., was down from Monday night, April 29, to Thursday, May 2, after a hacking attempt on the network that hosts the site, websitesfornewspapers.com. The server shut down as it was designed to do to thwart the hacking attempt but didn’t come back up. The Herald’s website was one of almost 300 newspapers across the county impacted during the outage.

“We fielded a lot of phone calls and emails from online subscribers when the e-edition wasn’t accessible Wednesday morning,” Herald editor David Howell said. “We appreciate your patience during the outage. It was the first outage in the 16 years that websitesfornewspapers.com has provided this service for the Herald.”
