Welcome back to another fun week with “Inside the Blue and White!” Students are working hard to finish their last tests and assignments of the year. And as the school year winds down, you would think the students are winding down too, but the Blue Devils are busier than ever!
The seniors are ending the year with a bang! After scheduling a devious senior skip day like every other senior class, the seniors woke up at the crack of dawn to head down to the local Bobby Clark Field to experience what they like to call a “Senior Sunrise.” They shared all of their fleeting memories they spent together. This Senior Sunrise was full of emotions as the class laughed over the bittersweet moments we’ve shared during the past 12 years that are coming to an end but never forgotten. This morning of bonding and laughs was an unforgettable and memorable day for the Senior Class of 2024!
The morning announcers are claiming it all! The dynamic duo, Seniors Jake Crawford and Mya Harden, showed up at the annual Chamber of Commerce reception where they both accepted the 2024 Elliot Scholarship Award. During the reception, Mya was introduced by Water Valley High School Principal Dr. Vickie Person and Crawford was introduced by former student Jackson Ward.
Each student’s activities, academic achievements, and community involvement were highlighted as they walked up to accept their award. This local scholarship is given to students who are hyper-focused on their academics while also being heavily involved in their community and school organizations. The recipients’ personalities and ambitions are also factored into the decision. Congratulations to these exceeding students!
The varsity baseball team has led our school through a victorious and touching moment as they ended their season in the third round of playoffs! They competed against the East Union Urchins, Thursday night and Saturday afternoon and they came up short against one of the best 2A teams in the state. Their season was filled with adversity and lessons early that turned into confidence and belief late as they advanced deep into post-season play.
While most team members are excited about next year’s season, for the sole senior on the squad, Will Embry, this was the last baseball game of his high school career. Will reports one of his favorite aspects of being a member of the baseball team is “being around his teammates and bonding over the passion of the sport.”
Congratulate each baseball member as they fought through a hard season and managed to end on an all-time high. The team would also like to thank BankFirst of Water Valley for providing team meals throughout the playoffs!
The Water Valley High School band finished a strong year after leading the school with fine tunes throughout the year.
Band director Wes Brown hosted a band banquet for the team last Thursday with five students receiving recognition including the recipient of the Stanley Crow award. This award is presented to a band member who shows exceeding leadership skills for the band’s advancement. This year’s honorary pick was senior band member Arthur Fielder. He has shown outstanding leadership skills, musicianship, and selflessness unto others and is the band’s top Flute instrumentalist. Thank you Mr. Brown, band members, color guard, and everyone who made it such a successful year!
School is almost out and summer break approaching. Students are still testing as the last few moments of the 2023-2024 school year wind down for students, teachers, and staff.

Blackmur Memorial Library was honored to present its first Poetry Award Wednesday, May 1, to Water Valley High School senior Mya Harden. Mya’s poem “God’s Love, God’s Grace” was the winner in a contest sponsored by The Friends of the Blackmur Memorial Library in April, which is National Poetry Month. Mya was presented with a certificate and a cash award, then read her poem to the audience gathered for the Lunch and Learn program. She is shown with Friends of the Library President Cinnamon Foster, left, and Blackmur Memorial Library Board of Trustees President Calvin Hawkins (right).
