WATER VALLEY – A new hardware store and lumber yard is coming to Water Valley, initially opening in the Valley Lumber Co. building on Main Street while a new building is constructed on the Hwy. 7 bypass.
Nabors Home Center, Inc. is a third generation business owned by Lee and Millette Nabors of Houston and operates four locations in Mississippi – Amory, Houston, Ackerman and Eupora. Lee Nabors reported a fifth location will be added in Water Valley.
Nabors provided details about the new store during a Water Valley Historic Preservation Commission meeting on April 29. Nabors told commissioners that he will close on the purchase of Valley Lumber Co. at 608 North Main Street on June 10. He will operate the Nabors Home Center at that Main Street location until his new store is constructed on the Hwy. 7 bypass.
“We will keep Valley Lumber Co. open and operating until we build the new store,” Nabors said.
Nabors also told commissioners that land clearing has already started at the new location on the bypass.
“We will apply for (building) permits once we get the property rezoned,” Nabors added about construction for the new location.
Nabors said the new location will include a 10,000 square foot hardware store, three times larger than the Valley Lumber Co. store. The new
Nabors Home Center will also have a 20,000 square foot drive-thru lumber yard with additional lumber sheds on the property.
“We are very excited about it,” Nabors added. “It is going to be a really nice facility. We have the Stihl dealership for Stihl outdoor power equipment and we are working with other dealerships.”
Commissioners voted unanimously to approve Nabor’s request for a temporary sign on the front of the Valley Lumber Co. building.
“We appreciate your presentation, you are all set,” commission chair Robbie Fisher told Nabors.
Commissioners also approved a request from Dr. Harry Rayburn for a new sign at the Water Valley Dental Clinic.
Rayburn told commissioners the new sign, seven feet long and four feet tall, will be installed on the front wall.
Rayburn told commissioners that the previous sign was one foot shorter, but removal of hedges along the wall makes a taller sign appropriate.
Rayburn also said lighting has been repaired to illuminate the sign at night.
