Area Youth Invited To Saturday’s Fishing Rodeo

The pond at the Bob Tyler Fish Hatchery has been stocked with catfish to ensure anglers’ success.

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks’ (MDWFP) 2024 Youth Fishing Rodeo is scheduled Saturday, May 18, at the Bob Tyler Fish Hatchery. This free event is for children, ages 15 and younger, and registration starts at 7 a.m.

Young anglers should bring their own fishing equipment and bait along with a container to take their catch home. This is a great opportunity for young anglers to catch their first fish or practice their fishing techniques. There will be goodies given out at the event and prizes given away for different fish categories.

The rodeo ponds are well stocked with channel catfish to meet participants’ expectations of catching fish. Fishing educational and technical information are provided by MDWFP Fisheries Technical staff, biologists from the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science, and volunteer anglers. Boating safety information is provided by our Law Enforcement Bureau.

For more information, call the Bob Tyler Fish Hatchery at (662) 563-8068. The fish hatchery and visitor education center is located below Enid Dam in Yalobusha County, Exit 233 off of I-55.
