WATER VALLEY – A Water Valley man was charged with domestic aggravated assault after allegedly throwing a knife at a women, striking her in the back and puncturing a lung. The stabbing occurred during an altercation on Blackmur Drive on June 6.
Chief Jason Mangrum reported Brandon Williams, age 38, was apprehended by officers shortly after the altercation. The victim was transported by EMS to Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. The chief reported the altercation stemmed from an alleged dispute over narcotics.
Mangrum said that a surveillance camera in the vicinity captured the altercation. Officers were able to review the footage that showed Williams throwing the knife at the victim. Williams fled on foot at 4 p.m. and was apprehended by officers at 5:14 p.m.
“They spotted him coming out of the woods and took him into custody,” the chief said.
Williams was transported to the Yalobusha County Detention Center and posted bond on June 17.
Other activity reported by the chief includes:
• Officers arrested George Rogers, age 44, for disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and disturbance of a family on June 8. The arrest was made after officers responded to Airways Acres for a disturbance call.
Mangrum reported Rogers was the ex-husband of the complainant and refused to leave the property.
“The resident and the officers asked him to leave. He started screaming profanities,” Mangrum said.
After repeated requests for Rogers to leave the premises, officers arrested him. Rogers was transported to the Yalobusha County Detention Center.
• Officers arrested Marque Martin, age 32, for an outstanding arrest warrant from Lafayette County on June 4. Officers initially determined that Martin was driving with a suspended driver’s license at a driver’s license checkpoint on Lafayette Street. They took her into custody after determining she had a warrant. The chief reported Lafayette County deputies picked her up.
• Officers responded to a shoplifting call at the Dollar General store on South Main Street on June 6. Mangrum said a store manager caught two juveniles putting candy in their pockets. The juveniles were turned over to their parents.
“This was the first time we had contact with these two juveniles, we hope that it will be a lesson for them,” Mangrum said. “It this happens again, we will send them through the youth court system.”
