Please mark on your calendars for vacation Bible school at the Tillatoba Baptist Church scheduled July 7-10. It will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. each night. There will be preregistration on Sunday, June 30, from 4 to 5 p.m.
And now we are going to brag on sweet Meg Daves a bit! Meg was a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta and was inducted in Phi Theta Kappa. Margaret “Meg” Daves is the daughter of Randy and Pam Daves of Coffeeville. Her maternal grandmother is Joy Mullen of Oakland. Meg recently received awards and scholarships, both scholastic and athletic.
On awards day, Meg Daves was recognized as a Kirk Scholar. Her academic awards include the highest average in dual enrollment courses for American Literature II, economics, and Biology II. She was also named salutatorian of the 2024 graduating class of Kirk Academy. She was also awarded the MVP for the Kirk tennis team and received multiple scholarship offers.
Our surprise visitor Saturday morning was son, Derek Deck from Cleveland. Grandson, Waylon Dukes also came down and visited.
Martha Box says,”Girl you know it ain’t easy being me. Thank Heavens Jesus still loves us, all my moaning and groaning would be worse without Him!”
She Enjoyed mornings and coffee on porch. But Monday morning it was hot very early. Even the birds were drooping. She is trying to save her tomatoes from mater worms and even crows. Brother Jesse put up some metal pans to scare the birds and Martha plucked and crushed those giant worms.
“One was so big, he made, I dare you eye contact with me as I crushed it,” she said.
Martha’s daughter, Ginger, is doing great. Her wonderful husband, Phil, is taking good care of her. He made biscuits Sunday morning!
Saturday, Tommy and Debbie McCool went and picked up Tommy’s sister, Alice Kellum. Then they motored to Leland and picked up another sister, Patsy, and her husband, Jim, and went to Philadelphia to visit another brother, James. That is too much riding for one day. They stayed until about 11 p.m. and didn’t get home until 3:30 a.m.
Debbie spent Sunday around the house. She promised granddaughter, Hannah Beavers, that she would cook her some pork chops and rice and also made dressing for granddaughter, Caitlyn, and son- in- law, Jason.
“A great weekend but wore out. Glad I’m off today. Our air conditioning is broken at work so get an extra day off until fixed. Sandy and Skylar Beavers came over and swam a while Sunday afternoon,” Debbie said.
Sounds like a fun filled weekend, Debbie!
My up-the-road neighbor, Lila Myrick, says it’s too hot to get out and do anything. She got up early and went to Batesville for bloodwork Monday morning. I hope everything comes out good for you, Lila!
Our great granddaughter, Haven Rose Dukes, and her cousin, Joanna Pullen, are playing T-ball at Rosebloom. They look so sweet walking around holding hands. Waylon said Haven Rose ate three hotdogs while playing on the field.
This past Saturday my great grandson, Bradley Holliday, of Grenada and his traveling ball team, the Sluggers, played in Water Valley’s “Battle in the Valley” tournament. The Sluggers went undefeated in the tournament and ended their spring season with a tournament win and a championship ring. I hate I didn’t get to see either one of my great grands play ball this year because of sickness, but maybe I’ll make up for it next season.
My cousin Phillip Tillman called from South Carolina to brag on his two new great grands. Noah Tillman was born Father’s Day and Nayeli Myles was born the next day. How wonderful!
Our only visitor Sunday was daughter, Donna who drove up from Grenada and brought us a case of Insure. Those things are good!
JR Dukes has been fishing a lot at Enid Lake lately and having some good luck. The crappie are catching that hook!
Beth Deloach says thanks to all the sweet hostesses that made her shower day perfect Saturday. Kristie Hartley Swope couldn’t have done a more beautiful job with the decorations! I think Kristie is working pretty steady with her decorating jobs.
A lot of useful gifts were received for baby John Beldon.
