WATER VALLEY – A groundbreaking celebration was held Saturday, June 22, for a new park and community garden located at 728 County Road 103 west of Water Valley. The Timothy Garden feature over 20 raised garden beds, providing space for local residents to cultivate fresh produce, learn about sustainable gardening, and enjoy nature.
Organizer Jason Bailey reported plans at the site also include the creation of a 20,000-plus square foot community center, a quarter-mile walking trail, three pavilions for grilling and a playground. He reported the total budget for the project is three-quarters of a million dollars – $500,000 for the solar powered community center, $50,000 for the walking tail, $100,000 for solar-powered pavilions, and $75,000 for the playground.
The project is sponsored by Vets for Youth. Bailey, an Air Force veteran and founder of Vets For Youth, and U.S. Army veteran John Holmes are taking the lead on the project. Bailey reported assisting organizations include Volunteer Mississippi, Mississippi Minority Farmers Alliance, Base Camp Coding Academy and Westside Community.
