WATER VALLEY – The Water Valley Lions Club held their year-end banquet on June 11, 2024. They enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by Lion member and barbecue pitmaster Brad Willingham. After the meal, they conducted their annual Officer Installation and Awards Ceremony officiated by Past District Governor Ron Kitchens, who was accompanied by his lovely wife, Lorraine.

The following officers took an oath and were inducted for the 2024-2025 term: Cinnamon Foster, President; Mike Edwards, 1st Vice President; Allen Rogers, 2nd Vice President; Tommy Defer, 3rd Vice President; Brad Willingham, Secretary; Bill Norris, Treasurer; Ray Hawkins, Lion Tamer; and Charles Sharp, Tail Twister. The Board of Directors includes Eddie Magee, Robert Turnage, Tony Hernandez, Bobby Jones, Bryan Gilley and Emily Soukup.
Other appointments were made to the following positions: Activities Chair Eddie Magee; Program/Publicity Chair, Terrie Johnson; Peace Poster Chairman, Barron Caulfield; LCIF Coordinator, Clyde Herron; Sight/Service Committee Chair, Mike Edwards; Depot Committee Chair, Charles Sharp; Safety Coordinators, Tony Hernandez and Ray Hawkins; Door Greeter, Jerry Holt; Leadership Committee Chair, Allen Rogers; Membership Committee, Terry Champion; Finance Committee Chair, Mike Edwards; Nominating Committee Chair, Mike Edwards; Boys Leadership, Bryan Gilley; and Girls Leadership, Cinnamon Foster.

Lion Mike Edwards was presented with the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award, the backbone of Lions’ foundation that is presented to those who donate $1,000 to LCIF (Lion’s Club International Foundation), or to people for whom a donation was made by others. This is a tremendous contribution to humanity and to the legacy of founder, Melvin Jones.
Lion Brad Willingham was presented with the Edwin Dalstrom Distinguished Service Award, the highest honor that a club or district can bestow through Mid-South Lions Sight and Hearing Service. The award is named for the organization’s first president, Edwin Dalstrom. Lions clubs, districts or multiple districts can honor a club member or a member of their community with this prestigious award by making a $1,000 contribution to Mid-South Lion’s Sight and Hearing Service.

Lion Jerry Holt received the Past President Service Award and will be serving as Immediate Past President in the upcoming year.
The officers are looking forward to serving the Lions Club this year and the members have several fun service projects and fundraisers planned. Be sure to attend the upcoming Watermelon Carnival pancake breakfast on Saturday, August 3, at the Lion’s Den inside the Water Valley Casey Jones Museum. You can also support the local Lions by visiting them in the City Park where they will be selling hamburgers and hotdogs on Friday and Saturday during the Carnival. The Club will also be selling tickets for a chance to win $500 worth of groceries at Larson’s Cashsaver grocery store. The winner will be drawn on Saturday during the carnival. Other ongoing fundraisers include selling pecans, chocolate peanuts and a variety of cheeses.
Come visit us on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at 6 p.m. at the Lion’s Den.
