Water Valley Main Street Association Director Alyssa Benedict (standing) submitted her resignation last week. She told city officials that she has accepted a full-time job in Oxford.
WATER VALLEY – Water Valley Main Street Association Director Alyssa Benedict is stepping down after serving almost three years. Benedict reported that she will leave the position on August 19 to take a full-time job in Oxford.
“It is definitely bitter-sweet. I want to thank you guys for the support you have given me, the opportunities Water Valley has provided for nearly three years. The work we have done here together has been good, it has been fun and it is not stopping,” Benedict told aldermen during the monthly city meeting on August 6.
Caitlin Magnuson will serve as interim director until Main Street board members hire a replacement for the part-time position. Magnuson serves on the Main Street board and is owner of the The Magnolia Coffee Co.
“She will take over on August 19 to allow some time for the board to go through the hiring process over the next few months,” Benedict explained.
Benedict was hired to lead the city’s Main Street program in September, 2021. Prior to moving to Water Valley, she worked as director of the Amory Main Street Association.
Benedict led efforts to reorganize the association during her tenure, recruiting volunteers and strong board members to help with numerous projects and events. She also secured grant funding for a large streetscape project that is still underway. Last month new street signs were installed along the Main Street business corridor as part of the project.
“Everything is in good standing,” Benedict noted about the streetscape project. “We are doing great within the organization and working well with our partners. Everything is set to keep moving forward and we are excited to see everything happen in the next few months.”
