NORTH CARROLLTON – The Water Valley Junior High School Blue Devils garnered two road victories on Tuesday, September 17, at J.Z. George.
In the opening game, the seventh grade team defeated the Jaguars 20 to 0. Klayton Norlander got the scoring going with a 70-yard rush off left tackle after fielding a bad snap. Noah Judson added the two-point conversion.
The seventh grade defense not only shut out the Jaguars, but also did not allow a first down in the game. Defensively, Judson and Jaxon Ledford paced the Blue Devils with four total tackles each. The ensuing possession saw Norlander again rush for a touchdown, this time off right end. Judson again added the PAT. The remainder of the game was dominance on both sides of the ball and improves their record to (2-2).
The eighth grade team has completed 16 straight shutout quarters on defense to improve to (4-0) on the season with a 20 to 0 victory. De’Marea Johnson softened up the Jaguars’ defense with a physical 23-yard rush to open the game. Landyn Logan came in and finished the job with a 47-yard rush for a touchdown behind the offensive line of Jose Guzman, Mitch Edwards, Alden Hubbard, Carter Pullen, Cooper Burrowes, and Brycen Perry. Johnson added the two-point conversion.
The “Junior Wrecking Crew” not only shutout the Jaguars, but held them to negative yardage on the evening. The unit was paced by Logan, Edwards, and Ken Hervey with four total tackles each. On the ensuing possession, quarterback Easton Newman connected with wideout Johnathan Malone for a 59-yard passing touchdown. The second half was more of the same as Logan again found the endzone in the waning minutes to complete the contest.
The junior varsity suffered a setback 26 to 6 at the hands of the Jaguars to fall to (1-3) on the season. The first half was dominated by the Blue Devils and led by a stout rushing attack of Dakota Burrowes behind the offensive Line of Nehemiah Brown, Kaleb Vire, Peyton Chandler, Jay Hervey, Alex Spruill, and Ja’Cameron Elmore. Burrowes found the end zone to go up six to 0 This score was setup by a fumble recovery by Linebacker Keshun Kurtz.
The JV defense shut out the Jaguars in the first half and was thought to add to the lead thanks to a 51-yard interception return by safety Kyler Norlander, however the touchdown was called back due to a block in the back penalty.
Defensive back Nick Rubio gave the Blue Devils excellent field position by another interception and returned to the Jaguars’ red zone. Right before the half, the Blue Devils threw an interception, and the Jaguars took it back 105-yards for the score. The JV Defense held and the score was six to six at Intermission. The second half was all Jaguars as they posted 20 points for their victory.
All three teams were back in action on the road at Independence at presstime Tuesday evening.
