Linda Faye Bell

WATER VALLEY – Linda Faye Bell departed this life on October 27, 2024. She was born on April 5, 1956, to Jewel “Boots” Bell and Bula Faye McCain.

After graduating from Water Valley High School, Linda dedicated 33 years of her career as a CNA at Yalobusha General Hospital. Additionally, she spent 13 years at Borg Warner before retiring. Linda had a passion for baking, tending to her flower garden, crocheting and swimming. Linda also cherished every moment of time spent with her beloved dogs Casper and BoBo.

Linda’s legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the memories she created, and the love she spread wherever she went. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Linda is survived by her two daughters, Jewel Wilbourn (Kevin) and Rhonda Hughes (David); four grandchildren, Christian Melton, Elizabeth Wilbourn, Destiny Hughes, and Chase Hughes; and one sister, Nell Ray (Ron) of Water Valley.

Linda is preceded in death by her parents, Jewel Buford “Boots” Bell and Bula Faye McCain Bell; and one sister, Brenda K. Bell.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 30, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Seven Oaks Funeral Home followed by the funeral service at 1 p.m. Bro. Raymond Aven will officiate.

COFFEEVILLE – Mr. Jason Levin Purdy, 54, of Coffeeville, passed away Saturday, October 26, 2024 at his residence. He was born August 22, 1970 in Oxford to Luke Purdy and Ora Mae Collins.

Jason was a graduate of Calhoun Academy and earned a Bachelors Degree in Education from Delta State University. He also honorably served in the Mississippi Army National Guard and was deployed to one tour in Iraq while enlisted. Jason enriched the lives of many children during his teaching career at both Coffeeville and Water Valley schools. In addition to his time in the classroom, he coached girls basketball at Coffeeville and later coached girls and boys basketball at Water Valley High School.

Jason was a faithful and devoted member of the Coffeeville Church of Christ and served in numerous capacities through the years. A professional fisherman, Jason enjoyed fishing and taking his boat out at every opportunity. He also enjoyed firing up the grill and spending time with his family. While Jason held many titles through the years, the title he loved most was being “Grumpy” to his first granddaughter, Wrenleigh.

A service to celebrate his life was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 29, at the Coffeeville Church of Christ with Bro. Don Roberson officiating. Jason was laid to rest in the Purdy family plot in the Coffeeville Cemetery. John T. Allen, John Beshears, Paul Burney, Bryan McCullough, Jason McCullough, Jim Peters, Bobby Summers, Scott Tribble and John Turner served as honorary pallbearers.

Survivors include his wife, Emily Madison Purdy; two daughters, Madison Purdy Williams (Coby) of Carrollton and Makayla Reese Purdy of Coffeeville; his mother, Ora Mae Collins of Water Valley; his father, Luke Purdy (Geneva) of Coffeeville; a sister, Rubijo Purdy of Water Valley; a granddaughter, Wrenleigh Blair Williams of Carrollton; his mother-in-law, Thu Madison of Coffeeville; a sister-in-law, Amanda Hanks (Eric) of Grenada; a niece, Ellie Hanks; and a nephew, Nathan Purdy.

Jason is preceded in death by his father-in-law, Jimmy Madison; his step-mother, Carolyn Purdy; and a nephew, Jonah Hanks.

Katie Shaw

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Katie Shaw, 87, of Minneapolis passed away on October 25, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Sylvester and Louise Shaw; and her brothers, James and Sylvester Shaw, Jr.

Katie spent her career as a dietitian in nursing homes in Mississippi and Minnesota where she developed strong friendships with her patients and co-workers. She loved to garden, attend church, travel, play bingo and host family gatherings.

Katie is survived by her sister Mary; five children, Sandra (Wade), Patricia (Wallace), James (Gabi), Tim (Kim) and Tammy; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, Nov. 4, at Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church located at 1118 South 8th Street, Minneapolis.
