Well, it’s been 42 hours since the Ole Miss Rebels lost to Florida and I’ve yet to hear another topic discussed either in my home, at the grocery store, on my daily hour-long walk with my husband, in my family text thread, in line at the gas station and so on. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised at this point if I walked out on my back deck to feed my cat Janet and she looked up to say, “Kiffin is an idiot.”
While I don’t agree with Jane insofar as publicly calling a person an “idiot,” I do wonder what Kiffin has against kicking. Who doesn’t love kicking a ball? Or watching someone else kick a ball…into your team’s field goal for an extra three points? I guess Kiffin’s aversion to kicking is an internal thing with him and we’ll never know from where it sprung. Maybe he got kicked by a mule as child. Just a theory.
Changing subjects to an entity that is succeeding, I hope y’all have checked out the new Water Valley Main Street Association Facebook and Instagram pages. New Main Street director, local gal Keli Lindsay, looks to be basically giving this town a $200K tourism campaign out of the goodness of her heart. In actuality, I have no idea what tourism campaigns cost but all I know is that Keli has been Water Valley Main Street director for like a month and already deserves a pay raise. I especially appreciate the weekly “Townie Tuesday” segment she promotes on Facebook because even though I’ve been in Water Valley for two decades, there are still some people I should know but, somehow, have managed to not actually meet. I appreciate a little synopsis of a local!
Speaking of Main Street, it’s looking very Christmas-y! The Christmas tree forest in the Garden Club pavilion looks magical. All the storefronts are festive and twinkly and the bank has a giant light-up Christmas tree on the roof this year! I haven’t decorated my little Main Street studio for Christmas because, well, it’s not even Thanksgiving yet.
It just didn’t occur to me to decorate for the Christmas holidays before I’d even consumed unmentionable volumes cornbread dressing and giblet gravy. I always assumed there was an order to the universe and cornbread dressing comes before string lights. But, seems I was wrong.
Truly, I don’t mind what order they come in as both dressing and string lights are great. I’m willing to mix it up and adapt to this brave, new world. The alternative, if I want to keep the same order, is to eat cornbread dressing on Halloween which I’m not doing.
This morning, when I saw the city installing what looks to be a line of Snow-Man-French-Fries sticking up out of the ground all along Main Street in Railroad Park, I took it as a cue to decorate my storefront for Christmas, cornbread dressing or not! Fortunately, I can just use the same fabric I use for Watermelon Carnival as the color-theme is conveniently the same.
I’m wishing everyone a safe week and happy Christmas-themed Thanksgiving!
