VERONA – Pamela Redwine, MSU Extension Agent and County Coordinator in Yalobusha, was awarded the FCS program of the Year. The presentation was made on Friday, Dec. 13, during the MSU Extension Northeast Regional meeting held in Verona.
Redwine’s recognition comes from a new program she launched in October, 2023, an innovative evening series called “FCS After 5.” Recognizing the need to reach more community members, especially those who work during the day and can’t attend daytime Extension programs, Redwine’s FCS After 5 series are a proactive approach for revitalizing and expanding the Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) in Yalobusha County. She thoughtfully designed the program to eliminate common barriers for participants.
“The goal was to offer at least one FCS-themed class each month in a relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere, with the added convenience of evening scheduling,” Redwine explained.
While Redwine leads most of the sessions, she also collaborates with local experts for special topics ranging from canvas painting to cake decorating, enriching the program’s diversity.
During the award presentation, officials noted the “FCS After 5” series has been a tremendous success reaching many new clients who have never attended Extension FCS programs. BankFirst sponsored the awards during the Northeast Regional Meeting.
