OAKLAND – The Oakland Area Chamber of Commerce has named Sue Donohue Smith as its Executive Director. Smith has served on the Chamber Board of Directors and as a volunteer for several years. She replaces founding director Linda Ross Aldy who will remain on the Board of Directors.
Smith brings years of organizational experience, including serving as National Vice-President of the United States Junior Chamber of Commerce. Smith currently owns Sue Can Do, LLC, a baking and catering business.
Smith has more than 30 years of professional experience in client services and human resource management. She earned both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Arts from City University of Seattle.
“We are extremely fortunate to have someone of Sue’s experience and skill set to lead our Chamber’s initiatives,” said Allen Welch, GM of Ajinomoto, and Chamber President. “Especially with her Junior Chamber of Commerce work, Sue has directed operations and guided strategy development and execution and that is just what we need for where we are in our Chamber work.”
“I am very honored to have been asked to serve the Chamber in this role. We have so much going on in Oakland and I look forward to being a part of this progress with our strong Chamber board and volunteers. We are, as our website says, a small town with big plans,” Smith said.
Aldy, who helped found the Chamber and served as volunteer executive director, will continue to serve the Chamber as a board member and will focus her efforts on community and economic development efforts.
“We are getting the best of both worlds in having Sue become our Executive Director and Linda continuing to serve on the board while focusing her efforts on development,” Welch said.
