Welcome back to Inside the Blue and White! It was another super busy week for students and staff. Water Valley High School students attended the University of Mississippi School Day baseball game last Tuesday as a PBIS incentive and for meeting benchmark growth. This trip was a reward for students who demonstrated exemplary behavior, strong attendance, or, in the case of junior high students, growth on benchmark assessments.
This was a day of fun, giving students a chance to enjoy time outside the classroom while being recognized for their hard work and dedication.
Our Health Science II students had an incredible opportunity to shadow professionals at Panola Medical Center. Students rotated through several departments, including the emergency room, operating room, radiology, the Family Medical Clinic and the Women’s Clinic. This experience gave them a firsthand look at the day-to-day operations in different areas of healthcare and allowed them to connect classroom learning to real-world practice.
A huge thank you goes out to Latricia Harris, who played a key role in organizing this clinical experience with assistance from Emily Cochran.
Water Valley High School was fortunate to have Crime Scene Investigators Amber Conn and Angela Feraci with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation spend the day speaking with the first year Law and Public Safety students. Agent Conn discussed how crime scenes and death investigations are investigated and processed. She also showcased some of the tools used in the field, giving students a hands-on look at the daily work of a CSI agent.
The varsity baseball team kicked off the first round of playoffs with a bang. The Blue Devils hosted Leflore County at home in a thrilling doubleheader last Wednesday night. The team had two great games, shutting out the Tigers in both games with final scores of 12–0 and 21–0.
Congratulations to our players and coaching staff on a fantastic start to the postseason!
In softball, the Lady Devils closed out their season after facing tough competition in the playoffs. Despite giving it their all, the team was defeated by the Riverside Bulldogs, ending the game 0–22.
After studying the engineering design process and Newton’s Laws of Motion, Ms. Gennifer Carwile’s computer science and engineering students applied their knowledge by designing and building rockets. They launched their creations, observing firsthand how physics and design work together in real-world applications.
Seniors have begun hosting their senior community service projects. This is one of the final assignments that the class of 2025 must complete for college and career readiness.
Many groups chose to host Easter events for the kids of Water Valley to enjoy! This included Easter crafts at Magnolia Coffee Co. and games at the Annual Junior Auxiliary Easter Egg hunt. These projects not only brought smiles to young faces but also gave seniors the chance to give back and lead by example.
To wrap it all up, students and teachers alike enjoyed a well-deserved long weekend in celebration of the Easter holiday. With both Friday and Monday off, the break provided a great opportunity to rest, recharge, and spend time with loved ones before diving into the final stretch of the school year. We are only about a month out from the end of the school year, with more busy weeks to come!
