Railroad Park was given a spring makeover by Town and Country Garden Club members and helpers including (from left) Steve Holloway, Phillip Dickey, Kathy Dickey, Rita Burk, Brenda Holloway, Zandra Walker and (not pictured) Jody Burk.
WATER VALLEY – Some familiar faces from the Water Valley Town and Country Garden Club were out and about last week, giving a little TLC to two of the town’s most-loved spots – Railroad Park and the Civic Auditorium. Armed with gloves, pruning shears, mulch, and a whole lot of elbow grease, these hardworking folks rolled up their sleeves and got to work.
The list included a full round of pruning, cleaning, and mulching at both sites—trimming back overgrown shrubs, weeding, and freshening up flower beds. Thanks to their efforts, Railroad Park is looking neat and welcoming just in time for spring strolls and weekend events. The Civic Auditorium grounds also got some much-needed attention as the building itself nears the finish line on its renovations. Before long, it’ll be ready to host plays, meetings, and celebrations once again.
Helping out at Railroad Park were Kathy Dickey (and husband Philip), Brenda Holloway (and husband Steve), Rita Burk (and husband Jodie), and Zandra Walker. Over at the Civic Auditorium, Martha Rogers (and husband Allen), Patsy Humphreys, and Jessie Gurner worked their magic.
“These are such important spaces in our town,” said Railroad Park Project Chairman Kathy Dickey. “We’re always happy to lend a hand—and a rake—when it comes to making Water Valley look its best.”
The Town and Country Garden Club is no stranger to beautification projects. From keeping up the iconic downtown planters to maintaining other areas around town, these volunteers are always digging in—literally!—for the good of the community.
As spring blooms across Yalobusha County, the Garden Club’s efforts are helping make sure Water Valley shines bright, one flowerbed at a time.
