James Epsie Adams

WATER VALLEY – James Epsie “Lightning” Adams was called home by the Lord on May 7, 2025. He was born February 20, 1941 in Panola County, Mississippi, to Epsie James (Major) Adams and Ruth Mae Henderson Adams.

James confessed a hope in Christ and was a member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Water Valley. James was united in holy matrimony to Kate Lynn Joiner. As a means of providing for his wife and growing family, James began his work life at Ram Tool. He would eventually change to working in construction, concrete, and operating machinery.

James is preceded in death by his wife, Kate Lynn Adams; his parents, Epsie James (Major) and Ruth Mae Henderson Adams, and his brother, Hubert Ray Adams.

James leaves many friends and family to cherish his memory including his children, Donna Woodard, Tracy (Brenda) Adams, James Adams, Curtis (Aisha) Adams, Jennifer Adams, Cautina Campbell, Fitzgerald Campbell and James (Ruby) Armstrong; his sisters, Loretta Thomas and Jeanette Thomas; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and good friends; and his life partner and companion, Bobby Faye Neely, who stayed beside him until his untimely death.

A wake for James was held Saturday, May 10, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley. A service to celebrate his life followed at 11 a.m. in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home. The interment was held at Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Water Valley after the service.

John Robert Bailey, Sr.

HOLCOMB – John Robert Bailey, Sr., 94, of Holcomb passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at Providence Assisted Living in Grenada. He was born February 2, 1931 in Leflore to George Robert and Oweda Thompson Bailey.

Mr. Bailey owned and operated W.E. Jackson The Printer for many years. He was a member of Holcomb Baptist Church where he faithfully served as a deacon for 42 years. He honorably served our country in the United States Army. He enjoyed many hobbies, including hunting, fishing, farming and raising cattle. His most loved hobby was refereeing football and basketball games.

Funeral services were at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada with Rev. Kevin Tribble officiating. Interment followed in the Holcomb Cemetery. Danny Anderson, Miles Bailey, Andrew Cook, Lee Eubanks, Austin Joyner and Brady White honored Mr. Bailey by serving as pallbearers and carry him to rest in the Holcomb Cemetery. Aiden Bailey and Tommy Jackson will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Survivors include his daughter, Patricia (Lee) Eubanks of Water Valley; a son, John Robert (Sheila) Bailey, Jr. of Holcomb; a sister, Lallie Fly of Holcomb; seven grandchildren, Alicia (Austin) Joyner, Brady (Kaley) White, Miles (Nikki) Bailey, Anne Claire (Danny) Anderson, Pam (Bill) Taylor, Mike (Tonya) Eubanks and Cheryl (Daniel) Thomas; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and two very special friends, Mary Jones and Happi Ballard and their families.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lora Nell Bailey; two sisters, Cathron Neal and Dorothy Moore; and three brothers, Leroy, James and Bobby Bailey.

Quay L. Peacock

COFFEEVILLE – Quay L. Peacock, 60, of Coffeeville, passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi in Oxford. He was born August 13, 1964 in Yalobusha County to Deral and Geneva Carpenter Peacock.

Quay spent most of his working life as a truck driver and later worked in the dirt and excavation business. He was a member of the Coffeeville Church of Christ. An avid outdoorsman, Quay enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as working on his tractor around his place.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 10, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada with Rev. T. Hill officiating. Interment followed in the Ford’s Well Church of Christ Cemetery in Yalobusha County. Pallbearers were Roy Anderson, Glen Burney, Ricky Fly, Drew Kirk, Sam Melton and Ronnie Stark.

Survivors include his wife, Shelia Peacock; mother, Geneva Peacock Harper of Coffeeville; daughter, Kimberly Davis(Steven) of Coffeeville; and his grandsons, Kameron and Stetson Davis.

He is preceded in death by his father, Deral Peacock and sisters, Jackie Peacock, Dana Peacock and Carla Fly.
