Strong Turnout In City Election

There was a steady flow of voters throughout the day at the two precincts in Water Valley for four contested races.
There was strong turnout in Tuesday’s General Election in Water Valley as two incumbents fended off challenges and another was defeated.
Incumbent Alderman-at-Large Herbie Rogers was elected to a third term with 61 percent of the votes cast. Rogers received 360 votes and Terry Allen, Jr. received 231 votes for Alderman-at-large.
Two term Ward 4 incumbent Nicole Folson won with 63 percent of the votes. Folson received 95 votes and Woodrow Wilson Daniels, III, received 46 votes.
In the Ward One race, political newcomer Joe Magnuson was elected with 56 percent of the vote, defeating incumbent Ron Hart. Magnuson received 136 votes and Hart received 105 votes.
In Ward Two, Demetrius Ingram won with 57 percent of the votes cast. Ingram defeated former aldermen Fred White, 61 to 46. Ingram previously unseated incumbent Freddie Folson in the Democratic Primary election in April to advance to the June 3 General Election.
Grant Thompson was the sole candidate on the ballot in Ward 3. Thompson will follow Bonnie Cox as Ward 3 aldermen after she did not seek re-election.
Tommy Reynolds was the sole candidate on the ballot for mayor and was elected to a full, four-year term. Reynolds took office as mayor in February, 2024, after winning a special election.
