Wanda Larson

OXFORD – Wanda Larson, 90, died Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at her home in Oxford. She was born on November 8, 1935, in Arkansas to the late Edith Dickerson and Elmer Luther Weems.

She was the youngest of three children, with two brothers, the late Howard Weems and the late Billy Weems. The Weems family moved to Water Valley during her sixth-grade year, where she met Bill Larson, who lived just down the street. The two became childhood friends until her family later relocated to Memphis. Bill stayed in touch, making many trips to visit her, sometimes “thumbing” rides to get there.

While living in Memphis, Wanda worked as a telephone operator for Southern Bell. She and Bill married on August 23, 1955, and their only child, Mark, was born on December 6, 1957, after the couple moved back to Water Valley. She assisted in the Larson Family Stores in various roles over the years.

Wanda was a loyal member of the First Methodist Church of Water Valley, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and in many other capacities. Known as “NeNe” to her family and friends, she loved family time, reading and shopping. She and Bill traveled extensively with friends and associates in the grocery industry and were longtime attendees at Ole Miss football games, both in Oxford and on the road. NeNe remained an avid Rebel football fan. The Larsons celebrated their 90th birthdays and their 70th wedding anniversary in 2025.

Wanda is survived by her husband of 70 years, Bill Larson of Oxford; one son, Mark (Daisha) Larson of Oxford; three grandchildren, Chad (Linda) Larson of Nesbit, Nathanael Abernethy of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Alan (Avery) Larson of Tupelo; and two great-grandchildren, Steve Larson and Margot Larson. She was also eagerly anticipating the arrival of her third great-grandchild, a little girl due in April 2026.

Visitation was held Friday, November 21, in the Gardiner Room at Seven Oaks Funeral Home from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Services followed at 1 p.m. in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks with Bro. Fred Eakes officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Water Valley.
