Mt. Liberty News
By Melissa Brooks
I hope everyone had a wonderful Father’s Day. We had a good day at church. Things have been pretty slow our way.
Leigh Anne, Mrs. Anne, Carol and Jimmy took the kids to see Sammie Sol (Sam Watts) in a program at the Oakland Library. The kids had a great time and really enjoyed the program.
Bro. Grant Coffey brought us a Father’s Day faith message from Luke 8:41-42. Jairus was the ruler of the synagogue, and he had a 12-year-old daughter who lay dying. At this point, his prestige didn’t matter. He went humbly to beg at the feet of Jesus to help his daughter.
We continued in verses 49-56, where a servant came and told Jairus that his daughter had died. Jesus told Jairus to have faith and she would be made whole. Because her father came humbly to Jesus and believed, she was made whole. The highest value of a father is to bring the needs of his children to Jesus in prayer. Your prayers can unleash miracles. The greatest gift a father can give his children is to show them his faith.
I don’t think fathers get the credit they deserve. So much is said about the love of a mother, but a father tends to play second fiddle. A home with a faithful Christian father is more likely to produce children who attend college and become Christians themselves. Children also tend to have higher self-esteem. Being a father is an important and often thankless job.
So, to all the dads out there, thank you. Just know that we see you. My dad has been gone for six years now, and I still hear his voice when I need advice. I can still picture him telling me, “If you’re right, it’ll be alright.”
So again, thank you, dads.
Next Sunday night we will have our monthly music night. I believe after this month we will start holding them quarterly instead of monthly. So y’all come join us.
If you’re looking for a home church, we welcome you. Services start at 11 a.m.
