Debris from Winter Storm Fern lines Highway 7 south of Water Valley ahead of a planned MDOT cleanup.
JACKSON – Residents who live along state highways in Yalobusha County can expect storm debris left by Winter Storm Fern to be removed by early August.
The Mississippi Department of Transportation said contractors remain on schedule to complete debris removal by Aug. 5.
The state cleanup is separate from debris collection conducted by Yalobusha County and the City of Water Valley. MDOT awarded its own contract to remove storm debris from state highway rights of way following Winter Storm Fern.
The project includes storm debris placed along state highway rights of way by property owners after the January ice storm, as well as hazardous hanging limbs and damaged trees cut by MDOT contractors during the state’s hazard tree removal operation.
In Yalobusha County, the MDOT project includes rights of way along highways 51, 32, 315, 7 and 330.
