Geneva A. Cobern
WATER VALLEY – Geneva A. “Sue” Cobern, 76, of Water Valley, passed away peacefully July 22, 2026, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
Born in Water Valley, Sue Cobern was the daughter of the late Kenneth M. (Snow) Samuels and Quay W. Samuels. She graduated from Water Valley High School in 1967.
She married Troy Cobern in 1970, and the couple moved to Senatobia in 1979, where they raised their family before returning to Water Valley in 2014.
Sue worked as an office administrator, spending much of her career as secretary at Magnolia Heights School in Senatobia. She was a member of First Christian Church in Water Valley, where she volunteered and enjoyed working with Vacation Bible School. She also enjoyed crafting, painting, shopping and giving gifts to others.
Family and friends remembered her for her outgoing personality, sense of humor and willingness to help others.
Sue is survived by her husband, Troy Cobern of Water Valley; a son, Correy Cobern (Renee) of Jonesboro, Ark.; a daughter, Whitney Cobern of Water Valley; a granddaughter, Dr. Jade Cobern (Dr. Roberto Aru) of Philadelphia, Penn.; and a sister, Pam Samuels Timmons of Water Valley.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Mike Samuels.
A celebration of life was held Monday, July 27, at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley with Bro. Mike Fondren officiating. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service.
Lucy Mae Beard Hendricks
WATER VALLEY – Lucy Mae Beard Hendricks, 75, of Water Valley, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2026, surrounded by her family.
She will be remembered for her loving spirit, kind heart and straightforward nature. She loved the Lord and cherished every moment spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She never met a stranger and treated everyone with kindness.
Hendricks enjoyed spending time outdoors, whether relaxing in her backyard, getting out and about or fishing whenever she had the opportunity. She also loved her dog, Little Man, and enjoyed collecting Native American memorabilia and I Love Lucy collectibles.
She is survived by three sons, Benjamin Earl Hendricks (Mary Beth), Henry Dale Hendricks (Tassi) and Thomas Wayne Hendricks, all of Water Valley; six grandchildren, Michael Hendricks, Amber Bowles, Chance Hendricks, Destynee Bowles, Amy Hendricks and Audrey Hendricks; four great-grandchildren, Ryland Hendricks, Grayson Hendricks, Jayson Bowles and Zylar Hendricks; two brothers, J.B. Beard of Edmonton, Kentucky, and William Earl Beard Sr. of Water Valley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Dale Hendricks; a brother, Harry Lee Beard; and a sister-in-law, Lucy Beard.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 24, at Seven Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Nathaniel Rios officiating. Burial followed in Delay Road Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation was held Thursday evening at the funeral home.
