Tillatoba News

George Payne Cossar State Park will have bingo Wednesday, Aug. 19, from 2 to 4 p.m. for ages 55 and up.
Dancing in the Park at George Payne Cossar State Park will be Saturday, Sept. 5, from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. I hear there will be lots of vendors and lots of fun.
Lauri McCollar was baptized at Tillatoba Baptist Church Sunday morning by Brother Rickey Harris. Lauri is from Oakland and is a sweet friend of Terri Dukes.
No real news, says Martha Box, but she is still kicking, just not as high as she used to.
“It’s so hot in my world I have worn out my itsy-bitsy, teeny-weeny, polka-dot bikini,” she said.
”What a great Sunday! Bro. Tommy Darby did an excellent job of sharing God’s word with us at Willow Springs. And you know I love the singing. Wayne Box’s singing touched my heart!” Martha added.
Martha spent this hot week inside cleaning out so many saved papers. She reported it was quite a burning. She had a coffee break at my place with Kenny Parker, Harvey and Linda Darby. It was the first one since the Truck Stop in Tillatoba closed. We will do it again Monday at 3 p.m.
Love and sympathy to the David Melton family of Grenada. David was a cousin to Lila Myrick and Freda Melton Weir, both of Tillatoba. David was married to Mary Beth Walton Melton. He was tax assessor for Grenada County.
Lila Myrick will go Wednesday for injections in her eyes at the clinic in Oxford.
“Hi everyone, nothing much with us,” said Debbie McCool. “Tommy and I had to cancel going to our granddaughter Allison’s and seeing our great-granddaughter, little Lily.”
Tommy was around a friend last Friday, and the friend tested positive Saturday for COVID-19, so they didn’t want to take a chance on exposing Lily. Debbie said they are planning to go in October now.
Debbie and Tommy went to church, then to Como for lunch and back through Batesville for some shopping.
Your writer’s daughter, Donna Garripoli, came Sunday and ate barbecue with us. Donna hasn’t been feeling well lately and has an appointment with a doctor in Oxford at the end of this month. Please say a prayer for my sweet daughter.
Celebrating birthdays this week are Roseanne Dukes Rose and Rowland Hartley on the 20th; Scotty Chambers on the 22nd; Benny Walker, Lilly Whitaker, Phillip Bell and Geneva Kelly on the 23rd; and Annette Corley, Pat Brooks and Heath Crawford on the 24th.
I hope you all have a wonderful and blessed day celebrating your birthday!
Thought for the day: You come from dust and you’ll return to dust. That’s why I don’t dust. It could be someone I know.
