Art Crawl Offers 13 Stops
WATER VALLEY — Downtown Water Valley will become a showcase for local and regional artists Saturday as the 18th annual Water Valley Art Crawl returns from 6 to 9 p.m.
The free event will feature artists at 13 locations along Main and Wood streets, ranging from established galleries and working studios to local businesses and private homes.
This year’s event continues a Water Valley tradition that dates to 2009. Early Art Crawls were organized by the Water Valley Arts Council and, much like today’s event, combined galleries and working artists’ studios with businesses and private homes throughout the downtown area.
The event has evolved over the years while retaining its walk-around-town format. The sixth annual crawl in 2014 featured more than 40 local artists and musicians at 14 stops within about a half-mile. Over the years, Art Crawl events have also incorporated live music, fashion, poetry and other creative offerings.
This year’s stops include Jacki Kellum Studios, featuring student artists; Cattywampus Vintage Supply Co., featuring Lambfish Art; Gordon Gallery, featuring Bradley Gordon and Evan Anderson; Jonathan Kent Adams Studio; GG’s Flowers & Gifts, featuring Garrett King; Kate Donovan Studio above BTC Grocery; Violet Valley, featuring Lance Yates; The Furnishing House, featuring various artists; a guest artist at 212 Wood St.; various artists at 311 Wood St.; Bozarts Gallery, featuring 12 artists; Zoran Gallery, featuring Zoran Crnkovic; and Blue Melon Rendezvous, featuring Mari Foster.
Organizers are encouraging visitors to make an evening of the event by having dinner downtown, stopping for a drink, visiting working artists’ studios, listening to live music and purchasing art.
The Art Crawl’s after-party tradition will continue Saturday from 9 to 11 p.m. in the Drawing Room at Magnolia Coffee Co. Live music will feature Knoxville band Dirty Knees and Water Valley musicians Susan Lee and Tim Lee’s Bark.
After-parties have been associated with the Art Crawl for years, with previous gatherings held at locations including D&D House of Bar-B-Que, Yalobusha Brewing Co. and Hometown Pizza.
Maps showing all 13 Art Crawl stops will be available from the Water Valley Main Street Association and on the back page of this week’s Herald. The Main Street office at 207 N. Main St. is also designated on the official map as an information location.
Both the Art Crawl and after-party are free and open to the public.
