Mt. Liberty News
By Angela Bratton
Hello, friends. I pray everyone had a good week and you found yourself in the Lord’s favor. That’s where we all want to be.
The message Bro. Grant brought us this week was titled “The Steps and the Stops.” Our Bible verses of focus were Psalm 37:23-24. “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; for the Lord upholds him with His hand.”
Bro. Grant Coffey asked us to imagine walking to the kitchen at night when the lights go out. Suddenly, you are blinded and you begin the “lights out shuffle.” We grope in the dark for something solid to offer stability, something to ground us and give us orientation. We shuffle along, hoping to avoid stubbing a toe, stumbling or falling down. This is how many of us live our lives, walking through life as if we are in a dark room, unsure of our path or what our next step should be. If we step wrong, we may stumble or fall, whether it’s a step toward a new job, a financial decision or a commitment of some other kind. But, PRAISE GOD, we don’t have to shuffle through life. God orders our steps. If we step wrongly, God will guide us back to where He wants us to be.
God isn’t just watching us from a distance; He is actively concerned about our lives. He is involved in every decision and interested in every detail. He is there for our large leaps of faith and our small shuffling steps of everyday life. God is our constant supporting companion who promises to go with us every step of the way. Don’t focus so hard on where we are trying to go that we miss where God is trying to lead us.
Our special music this week was “What A Day That Will Be,” sung by Bro. Grant, Opal and me, with Grant, Cody and Garret playing accompaniment on guitar. God knows our steps. He leads us even through our poor decisions to His heavenly home. Oh, what a day it will be!
Now What’s Buzzing in the Mount Liberty Hives? Backroads to dirt roads, find out Mt. Liberty’s breaking news:
We had a very successful All Saints’ Festival with an estimated 60 people coming out for the festivities. The kids jumped on the bouncy house as they awaited the games. Ms. Carol had a “Go Fishing” game for our kids, Ryan dressed up as the donkey for a round of “Pin the Tail On The Donkey” and the kids got to decorate pumpkins. We enjoyed a meal of chili and hot dogs followed by the cakewalk before wrapping up our night with a Hay Ride.
A huge “thank you” to Opal Watts for bringing coffee, orange juice and a breakfast casserole for everyone to enjoy Sunday morning. It was a welcome treat and may even become a regular thing.
Bro. Grant brought prizes to thank everyone for helping with the festival. He brought cups, notebooks, pens and keychains with Bible verses inscribed on them for everyone. What a thoughtful thing to do.
We have had a plethora of celebrations the past couple of weeks. Tate Person, Maddie Coffey and Bro. Allen Dickey all celebrated birthdays in October. Joe and Pam Mize had an anniversary and Cody and Tayler Person celebrated nine years together.
If you are looking for a church to call home, please come to Mount Liberty. Sunday school starts at 10 a.m. with worship services at 11 a.m. and evening services at 6 p.m. We welcome everyone to come and worship with us. We’re not just a church, we’re family.
