Mt. Liberty News
By Angela Bratton
Hello friends. I pray everyone had a good week and you found yourself in the Lord’s favor. That’s where we all want to be.
The message Bro. Grant Coffey brought us this week was titled “The Upgraded Soul.” Our Bible verses were Titus 3:3-7, with our focus on verse 5. “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit.”
We tend to love restoration. We fix up old cars, remodel old houses, refurbish old furniture and antiques. Clean it up, sand it down, put on a fresh coat of paint and make it look like new. But some things are beyond restoration. They are too far gone. The house eaten up by termites or black mold, the rusted-through car with a blown engine, etc. When items cannot be restored, they need to be replaced.
Before Jesus, we were spiritually dead. We were too far gone. Beyond restoration, we were in need of regeneration. Like a lizard that loses its tail and regenerates a new one, Jesus replaced our old selves with new selves. There is a difference between restoration and regeneration. Restoration focuses on how the outside looks while regeneration creates new life. You can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig. It will return to the mud hole. We needed to be made new through the blood of Jesus Christ and renewed through the Holy Spirit. A spiritual upgrade.
Our special music this week was “Mansion Over the Hilltop,” sung by Opal and myself with Opal playing accompaniment on the keyboard. Our mansion in heaven will not be susceptible to termites and mold. No restoration will ever be required. Thank You, Lord!!
Now What’s Buzzing in the Mount Liberty Hives? Backroads to dirt roads, find out Mt. Liberty’s breaking news:
I hope everyone had a great week. I know the kids were making the rounds in town doing Trunk or Treat. And I know teachers were dreading the coming week with kids on sugar highs and sneaking candy in their backpacks. I remember those days well.
Carrying on with our Sunday School casserole breakfast, I made a ham, egg and cheese hash brown casserole. It was well received. Except for Ms. Anne, who doesn’t like eggs. I will have to keep that in mind for the future.
We celebrated Avery Coffey’s birthday yesterday. She brought her new baby doll to show everyone. We love watching those sweet girls growing up.
In recognition of All Saints’ Day, Ms. Carol set up a table for everyone to bring photographs of those who have gone on to heaven. We all have people that we have lost who played an important role in shaping our own faith. It is a blessing to be able to honor them.
Bro. Grant is going to see the foot doctor this week. He has been having pain for quite some time and is praying for relief.
Coyanna continues to recover from her surgery. She will be cleared to return to work on November 10. It has been difficult without an income or being able to drive these past weeks, and any help in the meantime would be greatly appreciated. She is looking forward to getting back to work and getting Bella later this month.
If you are looking for a church to call home, please consider coming to Mount Liberty. Sunday school starts at 10 a.m. with worship services at 11 a.m. and evening services at 6 p.m. We welcome everyone to come and worship with us. We’re not just a church, we’re family.
