At least three people have spotted this iguana on County Road 223. The iguana was a family pet and is harmless, but evasive according to the owner. She has tried multiple times to capture the iguana and is worried that it will not survive when it turns cold this winter.

WATER VALLEY – A large lizard remains on the lam east of Water Valley despite several attempts to capture it. The lizard is actually a five-and-a-half feet green iguana named Godzilla and a family pet according to the owner, who requested the Herald not to include her name in this story.
She said the iguana escaped several weeks ago while the cage was being cleaned. The critter stayed in the trees near the house for almost a week after escaping, but they were unable to put their hands on him.
“He would let us get pretty close and then just take off,” she explained. The trail grew cold until she saw last week’s story in the Herald along with a picture of Godzilla.
District 2 Supervisor Ken Rogers was the first to spot the iguana on County Road 223 and took the picture. Rogers said two more motorists have seen the iguana in the same area, with the latest sighting Sunday. He also said he showed the owners exactly where the critter was spotted so they could search for it.
“I think he is in the road sunning until a car comes, then he runs in the woods,” the owner speculated. “He is very friendly, we got him several months ago as a pet for my boys,” she added. “We would like to get him home, he won’t make it through the winter.”
