Authorities Seek Tips To Help Locate Missing Guns

WATER VALLEY – Authorities are continuing to search for missing guns stolen during an armed robbery in Water Valley on June 28. Sheriff Lance Humphreys reported almost a dozen pistols and several shotguns and rifles have not been recovered after three men stole a large collection of guns from a residence on West Lee Street.
Javion Wilks, Demonterrious Hervey and Qy’Darrious Towns were charged by the Water Valley Police Department for armed robbery, grand larceny and conspiracy to commit a crime four days after the incident. Humphreys said deputies were able to recover some of the stolen items that also included collectible coins.
“There is a very good possibility that these guns we haven’t recovered are still in the Water Valley area and we are reaching out to the public for help,” Humphreys said.
Anyone who may have information about the missing guns is urged to contact the police department at 473-2933 or the sheriff’s department at 473-2722. Crime-stoppers will pay up to $1,000 for information about the crime.
Humphreys also said authorities are also taking a second look at a 2016 armed robbery that has not been solved. Similar to the June robbery, an elderly man was robbed at gunpoint at his residence on County Road 15. The crime was reported on March 19, and Humphreys is hopeful somebody may have a tip that may not have felt comfortable talking to authorities before.
“I think there is somebody out there with information that could help us. Crimestoppers will pay $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in this crime,” the sheriff added.
During the robbery, two African-American males came to the victim’s house and knocked on his door. When the victim opened it, a tall, slender man with a blue bandanna over his face, wearing a tannish, checkered shirt and ball cap pointed a silver handgun at him and demanded money.
The victim handed him $80 in cash, but the gun wielder demanded more and made the victim go through his house in search of more money.
“He was pleading with the guy with the gun, he told him to please leave without hurting him,” Humphreys said. “The victim stated that the men continually threatened to kill him,” the sheriff added.
The men then left after ordering the victim to lay on the bed. The victim told deputies that there two suspects and possibly a third one.
“There are some similarities in this case and the one last month in Water Valley and we desperately need the public’s help to put this to rest,” Humphreys added.
