Local Favorites Play At Melonvine Marketplace Saturday Night

It’s been a little over a year since the Old School Theater opened on Main Street as a new music and event venue.
The theater, located inside the Melonvine Marketplace on the south side of Water Valley (817 South Main Street), is a revitalized 250-seat school auditorium with a new stage, lights and sound. Foster Music & Arts regularly presents both national and regional music acts at the theater. This year Foster Music & Arts will join the growing list of carnival weekend activities with a free show featuring two of the area’s most popular loved bands – The Sharecroppers and The Tula Opry band “Lost Tyme” on Saturday.
With 13 shows under his belt, Foster Music & Arts director Eddie Foster, who also sponsors the shows at the theater through his business the Caryl Company, has set up a show to give Water Vallians and visitors a free and easy opportunity to check out the theater by combining these two acts to cap off Watermelon Carnival weekend.
The Tula Opry Band is the house band at the Tula Opry, a monthly show held in Tula in a beautiful performance space built by owner Rusty and Jean Pinion. The band rarely appears elsewhere, so this is a special treat for Water Valley music lovers and visitors. The Tula Opry Band plays a wide variety of bluegrass standards and bluegrass gospel featuring Rusty Pinion of Tula – five-string banjo and dobro, Bill Bailey of Calhoun City – bass fiddle, lead and baritone vocals, Jerry Haynie of Abbeville – mandolin, lead and high baritone vocals J.D. Long of Vardaman – rhythm & lead guitar, tenor vocals and comedy, and Steve Norwood of Banner – fiddle.
The Sharecroppers need no introduction to Water Valley residents, having been stalwarts of the local scene for over two decades. The band plays classic rock and roll and country and features Jessey Higdon – lead guitar and vocals, Danny McGregory – keyboards, Daryl Burney -electric bass and Clay Ashford-drums.
