Public Engages In County Planning

WATER VALLEY – At presstime Tuesday night the second of three public meetings was underway at the Water Valley courthouse as supervisors push toward the implementation of a long-range plan to guide future growth in the county. The meeting is one of three scheduled this week across the county to get public input as work continues to develop a comprehensive plan that could include land use regulations, subdivision regulations and possible zoning after supervisors hired a planning company, Orion Planning+Design, back in April.
More than two-dozen citizens attended the first meeting, held Monday night at the Coffeeville courthouse, as Orion planner Bob Barber solicited input about the positive attributes of the county and obstacles that could affect the future. During Monday’s meeting, the attendees divided into groups and answered multiple questions about the county. The answers were posted on the courtroom wall and each participant ranked the importance of the topics generated during the discussion.
The information gathered in all three meetings will provide direction for the long-range plan, according to Barber.
“What comes out on the back end will target what people in Yalobusha County will want for stewardship,” Barber explained.
If you missed the first two meetings, there is still time to voice your opinion about the future of the county. The third meeting is scheduled Thursday night at Oakland Town Hall at 7 p.m.
