Oakland Man Arrested For Meth

COFFEEVILLE – An Oakland man was arrested for possession of methamphetamine during a traffic stop Sunday morning. Sheriff Lance Humphreys reported Jason Patton, 31, was charged with possession of methamphetamine, less than two grams, no driver’s license and careless driving after deputies stopped him on County Road 222 around 1 a.m.
The deputies first became suspicious after Patton turned in what appeared to be an attempt to avoid encountering the patrol cars. According to the incident report, deputies initially encountered Patton near the Coffeeville courthouse and he turned and headed toward Kennedy Street and out of town. Deputies caught up with him on County Road 212 and initiated a traffic stop on County Road 222 near the Turkey Creek bridge after observing Patton swerving across the road.
According to the report, when Patton stopped his vehicle he started hollering and waving his arm out of the window, appearing agitated and very nervous. He was initially arrested for driving without a license and consented to a search of his truck. He also told deputies that he had meth in his truck and a quick search revealed a plastic bag of alleged meth hidden in a magnetic key holder stuck under the dash.
Patton told deputies he had been a meth user for approximately a year and had purchased the drugs in Oakland. He was booked in the Yalobusha County Detention Center.
