Presbyterian Church Plans Special Service To Observe Reformation

In order to observe the 500th anniversary of Protestant Reformation, First Presbyterian Church of Water Valley has invited a guest speaker for the morning worship service on Sunday, October 29. 

Rev. Bill Smith, a former minister of the Presbyterian Church in America who is now a Reformed Episcopal preacher of the Anglican tradition, will speak. The public is invited to join the church family for this special service and for their monthly Family Fellowship Meal, which will follow in the Education Building.

The Protestant Reformation is usually thought to have begun on October 31, 1517 when Martin Luther published his Ninety-five Theses. Most think he nailed them to the door of the Castle Church at Wittenberg, Germany. Others think on that day he delivered them to Albert of Brandenberg, the Archbishop of Mainz. Some think both, but no matter how he delivered them it is agreed that they started what we know as the Protestant Reformation.
