SCAA Cares For Rescued Livestock

The rescued animals included four turkeys and a donkey along with a couple of pigs, two sheep, chickens and six dogs.
Volunteers with the Second Chance Animal Alliance continue to care for livestock and dogs rescued last month from a farm on County Road 68 outside of Tillatoba.
The animals were rescued after landowners adjacent to the property requested help from the SCAA after at least a half-dozen animals died during the recent frigid weather. The neighbors also contacted the Yalobusha County Sheriff’s Depart-ment for help.
After an investigation Rebecca Wilson was charged by the sheriff’s department in justice court last week with 19 animal cruelty counts for not providing food or water and six counts of simple cruelty of a dog or cat after Wilson allegedly abandoned the animals during the frigid weather. She was arrested Wednesday, Jan. 24, for the charges.
Sheriff Lance Humphreys reported that some of the animals were extremely malnourished including two Great Pyrenees dogs. Among dead animals discovered at the scene were goats and sheep.
The rescued livestock are housed in two different foster locations, according to SCAA volunteer Lara Smith. The dogs are also in multiple locations including foster families and at the shelter.
Smith also reported that donations are vital to assist SCAA with ongoing care for the animals in their care. Monetary donations can be made by clicking the “Donate” button on the Second Chance Animal Alliance Facebook page. The organization also accepts pet food donations.
