Police Have Suspect In Weekend Burglary At BTC

Sgt. Spring Crenshaw bags the money drawer taken from the B.T.C. as evidence after a city worker discovered it on Market Street Monday morning.

A suspect in the weekend burglary at the B.T.C. Old Fashion Grocery Store was taken into custody in Coffeeville Monday night after Water Valley police circulated his photo earlier in the day.

Water Valley Police Chief A.J. Hernandez reported that the suspect will likely be charged in the next few days. The chief also reported the break-in was discovered Sunday morning by a store employee after arriving to work around 8 a.m. The perpetrator gained entry after forcing the back door open and was in the building around a minute, only taking time to grab the cash register.

Hernandez said the cash drawer was recovered Monday morning on Market Street after an observant city worker noticed it on top of the storm drain and alerted police.

He also credited the Yalobusha County Sheriff’s Department, the District Attorney’s office and the Drug Court parole officer for assistance in apprehending the suspect.
