Tillatoba Business Cited For Alcohol Violations

TILLATOBA – A store owner and employee in Tillatoba were ticketed by the Yalobusha County Sheriff’s Department for multiple alcohol-related violations following an undercover operation Friday night and Saturday morning.

Sheriff Lance Humphreys reported the operation followed numerous complaints about illegal activity  at the Tillatoba Truck Stop and All American Restaurant including selling beer after hours and folks standing outside in the parking lot drinking beer.

“We were getting calls that there was a bar-like atmosphere on the weekends,” the sheriff explained. “The detail lasted from about 9:30 Friday night until about 3 a.m. as we observed and documented the activity,” he added. 

Humphreys said the store owner, Satwaht Kaur, was cited for one count of selling beer after hours ( after midnight), one count for loud music and two counts of letting customers leave with an open container of beer. The store clerk was also cited for two counts of letting customers leave with an open container, one count of serving beer to an intoxicated customer and one count of selling beer to an underage customer (under 21 years-old).

The sheriff said one customer was arrested for public drunk, a truck driver from California who they observed inside drinking in the restaurant during the night and then came outside to argue when the sheriff and deputies confronted the store employee.

“He was intoxicated and was headed to his big rig when he stopped to argue about the situation,” the sheriff explained. “He may not have been fixing to leave right then, but it takes a lot of hours to get the alcohol out of his bloodstream before he can legally drive, especially with a commercial driver’s license.”
