Voters in the City of Water Valley will go to the polls on April 6 to vote in the Democratic Primary. The contested races in the primary include the mayor’s election with incumbent Donald Gray and Terry Rocket competing for the city’s top elected position; the bid for Ward One Alderman with political newcomers Lloyd Leland Caulfield and Ron Hart on the ticket; and a three-way race for Ward Two alderman after incumbent Fred Earl White, McKendrick Pawfene Bounds and Freddie Folson qualified.
Candidates who are unopposed on the ballot include Herbie Rogers for alderman-at-large, Bonnie Cox for Ward Three Alderman and Nicole Folson for Ward Four Alderman.
The deadline to cast an in-person absentee ballot is Saturday, April 3, from 8 to noon in the city clerk’s office.
All candidates in the city are running on the Democratic ticket, which means the races will be settled in the primary. A runoff in Ward Two, if necessary, will be held on April 27.
Municipal voting precincts are located at the following location:
Ward One – Electric Department on Gore Circle;
Ward Two – Yalobusha County Courthouse;
Ward Three – Water Valley fire and police department; and
Ward Four – City auditorium (Problems in the building may prompt a location change. The Herald will report if the precinct is moved.)
