WATER VALLEY – Blue Devil senior football player Donalvin Wilson announced his commitment to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College during a ceremony last Wednesday at the high school gym. He finished the season with 111 tackles and 15 sacks.
Wilson extended gratitude to his teammates and coaches for pushing him to succeed.
“Dez Campbell is always pushing me to be the best I can every day and keeping me on track. Bug (Ezaryon Riley), Isaiah (Webb), Reid (Burress), they always keep me on track,” Wilson said. “I love the coaching crew that we have. Coach Smith, Coach Russo, Coach Bratton, Coach Mix, Coach Faust, they are always pushing me to be the best I can be. They put me in a position where I can succeed,” Wilson said.
Wilson reported his commitment to Gulf Coast comes after making strong connections with Coach Jack Wright, Coach Brett Shufelt and Coach Ron Smith.
“We made great connections that led to my decision,” Wilson explained.
Head Blue Devil Coach Clint Faust noted that Wilson had multiple contributing factors that helped propel him to success.
“He bought in to the process, he has a strong work ethic and he is very talented,” Faust said. “Overall as a lineman who can play on both sides of the ball, he is one of the top two or three that I have ever coached and I have been doing this for 21 years.”
Defensive coordinator Richard Russo also credited Wilson’s work ethic and coachability.
“Coach Mix was excited about his potential. Coach Mix does a tremendous job developing our defensive line whether you are going to play college football or not. He is bar none the best defensive line coach in the state,” Russo added. “And Donalvin is another example of what Water Valley Blue Devil pride and tradition is. We have players come through and develop and he is another in the long line. He is going to represent us well the next four or five years.”
