WATER VALLEY – Yalobusha County Sheriff Jerimaine Gooch reported Davidtron Logan was arrested on January 4 for three counts of animal cruelty. The arrest stemmed from an investigation that was launched on January 2 after the sheriff’s department received a complaint involving multiple dogs outside a residence in the Velma community.
The sheriff reported that at least one dog on the property had injuries that appeared to be consistent with dog fighting. He also said over a dozen dogs were seized by order of the court. Logan is scheduled to appear in Yalobusha County Justice Court on January 9.
Other activity reported by the sheriff:
• Larry Simmons of Water Valley was arrested on Highway 330 in Coffeeville on January 4 on a warrant for contempt of court.
• Melon Dralique Murray was arrested for running a stop sign, failure to yield to blue lights, driving with a suspended license and DUI – other on New Year’s Day. The arrest was made during a traffic stop at the intersection at Kennedy and Hawaii streets in Coffeeville. Murray also had a bench warrant in Coffeeville.
• Marshall Phillips was arrested for domestic violence and resisting arrest on Dec. 30 in the Sylva Rena community after deputies responded to a call. Phillips was apprehended after he fled on foot, leading deputies on a chase for several hundred yards.
• Michael Thomas and Leykon Caulder were arrested in Panola County on Christmas Day after warrants had been issued in Yalobusha County for a burglary. Sheriff Gooch reported the warrants were issued after Thomas and Caulder allegedly broke into a camper on County Road 80 on April 15, 2024.
