BATESVILLE – The 2025 NW District Livestock Show was held in Batesville January 16-18. Several 4-Hers from the Water Valley area participated and brought home some ribbons, banners, and belt buckles. The 4-H Livestock program in Yalobusha County has more than doubled in the past two years and the young people are gaining a wealth of knowledge and responsibility.
The livestock projects are a family affair but the 4-H exhibitor is responsible for the care, feeding, grooming, and showing of their animals. It is quite an undertaking and the lessons learned by these young people are priceless. The young people join 4-H and can begin showing at eight years old and may continue through their 18th year. The passion that they develop for their project animals is immeasurable. They nurture some of them for 2 or more years then are able to reap the rewards of some of those animals producing offspring.
Susan Schroyer started off the winning weekend with one of her rabbits taking Best in Show out of all 46 rabbits that competed. She then won a belt buckle and three banners with her meat goats, one of which was Grand Champion Meat Goat Doe.
Auston, Wyitt, Coalson, and Phinn Hughes took their turn with their dairy goats. They, too, won buckles, ribbons, and banners with one of their Junior Does, under one year old, won Best in Show. The Hughes brothers and their goats are quite well known across the state as the ones to try to beat.
The cattle show began on Saturday with 3 exhibitors from Yalobusha 4-H. Wyatt Daniels had 3 beautiful bovines in the show and brought home blue ribbons with all of them which means he will continue showing them at the Dixie National in Jackson February 2-4. Kash Mastrangelo, grandson of Daryl Burney, showed 3 heifers off their farm in Coffeeville. He also qualified to take all three to the Dixie National. Emmett Brooks brought home a buckle, banner, and ribbons. He won 1st place in the Showmanship class for 10-11 year olds then Reserve Junior Showman with the 8-13 year olds, combined. He will be taking his heifer and Bull to the Dixie National, also.

Wyatt Daniels brought home blue ribbons with three bovines in the show. He will continue showing them at the Dixie National in Jackson next month.
